05-20-2015 | STUDENTS ATTEND DVMS CAREER FAIR
Students enrolled in Engineering classes at Del Valle High volunteered their time to talk to younger students at Del Valle Middle School during their career fair. Discussions included topics like what is offered, fun projects, and types of software. Many students came to the table with questions.
Career fairs like this provide an opportunity to promote the Engineering program at the high school to younger students throughout the district. DVHS Students attend the career fairs throughout the year at various schools to share the information.

05-19-2015 | STUDENTS VISIT ACC IT ACADEMY
Students interested in pursuing careers in the Computer Science field were invited to visit the ACC IT Academy at the Highland campus, where they were informed of an upcoming opportunity to attend there in the fall while they attended Del Valle. The Director of the Accelerated Programmer Training, Sam Greer, showed students the facility and explained details about the program. Students were then encouraged to apply.
To date, eight students are participating in afternoon classes on Monday and Wednesday. They have the option of studying Introduction to Computing or Fundamentals of Networking, in addition to their current Del Valle schedules. Upon completion, students will receive a Marketable Skills Award and become eligible for a paid internship.
An extended THANK YOU goes to Dr. Greer and his team for making this a reality for our students!

04-24-2015 | JR-SHPE TOURS FOAM & PLASTICS PLANT
Jr. SHPE members had an opportunity to tour the Austin Foam and Plastics plant in Pflugerville. Students were greeted by Mr. Mark Lannan, a senior packaging design engineer. During the tour, students learned the process of designing, creating, and testing packaging to ensure a product's safety during shipping and storage. Mr. Lannan also showed some of the products they have created, including a surprise foam cardinal created by his design team! Along with the cardinal, each student received a souvenir koozie with the AFP logo.
A big THANK YOU is extended to Mr. Lannan and his team for taking time out of their busy schedules to educate our kids! With their efforts, students can become aware of different opportunities available to them in the Engineering profession.

03-03-2015 | STUDENTS ATTEND SEMI HIGH TECH U
Nine engineering students from Del Valle High Engineering program were selected to attend a rigorous three day training program at Samsung in Austin from March 3rd to March 5th. SEMI High Tech U, based out of California, hosted the event. A total of 30 students attended from the surrounding schools in the Austin area, giving DVHS students a chance to meet other "future engineers".
Attendees learned engineering principles through fun and engaging activities for different disciplines including Electronics, Chemistry, Statistics, Semi Conductor, and Computer Science. Students also spent a day visiting the JJ Pickle Center at the UT Austin campus, where they participated in a sand experiment illustrating the difference between hydrophobic vs. hydrophilic molecules, dressed up and toured a clean room facility, and learned about the process of photolithography. After enjoying lunch, students participated in the "Human Calculator" game, and then walked inside one of the largest super computers in the world!
The SEMI High Tech U program encourages students to continue their interest in STEM careers because the outlook of job availability in the engineering industry is steadily increasing. A huge thank you goes to Leslie Tugman and Michelle Cotta from the SEMI Foundation, along with Samsung and UT participants/instructors, whose tireless efforts had a positive impact on our students. Another thank you is extended to Mr. Ragan, who helped provide transportation of a second vehicle needed to get the students to Samsung and JJ Pickle and back.

02-26-2015 | JUNIORS TOUR TEXAS A&M IN GALVESTION
Twenty-nine students in the Junior class selected Texas A&M in Galveston for their college visit. The university sits on Galveston Bay just over the Pelican Island Causeway and is a three and a half hour drive from Del Valle.
Upon arrival, students were welcomed and shown a PowerPoint presentation and video about the school. They learned about the specialty courses offered (Maritime, Oceanic, Marine, Offshore, Coastal), living on campus, extracurricular activities, and tuition/scholarships available.
Students then went on a tour to see the different buildings on the campus, including the dorms. Afterward, they enjoyed an all you can eat lunch in the campus's cafeteria, which included a wide variety of food and beverages. Students also had an opportunity to shop for a few minutes in the campus store prior to departure.
The campus is an extension of the Texas A&M University in College Station. Students graduating from here will receive an accredited Texas A&M University degree. Scholarships are available to students who are willing to commit to military enlistment.
